Mercredi 10 juin

Coach B

We loved the biscuiterie.. making, cooking and eating les biscuits!  We then had lunch at the Batterie at Longues sur Mer, huddled together, before running to the gun emplacements.  Then on to the 360 Cinema where history came to life!  When we came out of the cinema we went up to the viewing point where the wind was strong enough to push you along.  Then along to the Bayeux tapestry which is housed in a magnificent building.  The pupils had an audio guide through each stage of the tapestry to understand the full story, finishing off with a helpful documentary within the cinema.

Coach A We planned our picnic at Ma Normandie and practised our French.  Then on to Cabourg market where groups of children were given money to buy the ingredients for a picnic.  It was lovely to see them making so much effort and several were complimented on their French - one group even getting some free shrimps from the stallholder as a reward.  We then walked to la plage to play on the beach, eating une glace on the way.  Back to le jardin public where groups produced beautiful spreads, then back on the coach to Pegasus museum.  We walked down to the monuments showing where three gliders landed so skilfully after midnight and had taken the bridge by 12.30 then went up to the memorial museum where we watch a 12-minute film then listened to a guide showing us the original bridge and a replica glider.  It was very fitting to end the day with a visit to Ranville cemetery, reading the headstones, and finding one which commemorated a former school pupil.

The day was rounded off with a reunion of all coaches on Merveille plage.  It was great to see Coach C.  Mr Tunmore said that everything has gone well, and everyone was happy!
